Cheap vs Expensive Dishwashers? Profile vs Miele

The new Profile dishwasher has a new washing and drying system along with many unique features to wash your bottles and silverware better.

But it couldn’t be better than the new popular 7000 series G7366 Miele dishwasher costing twice as much, could it?

In this article, we’ll compare both brands for all the reasons you buy a dishwasher washing, racking and drying.

Plus some special features from both brands that are actually interesting.

Stay to the end and we will reveal the exact reliability statistics for both brands based on over 40,000 service calls completed by a service department just last year.

    Let’s get started.

    Silence Ratings

Both are quieter than the 44 decibel quietness threshold, at 42 meaning you won’t hear either. Miele will be 40 db’s with extra quiet cycle but that slows the motor for a four hour duration.

So both are quiet and you won’t hear either in an open kitchen plan. But there is a difference.

Profile is the only dishwasher to have a grinder at the bottom and still meet that standard.

Miele like Bosch, KitchenAid and others have a filter you have to clean.

    Wash Cycles

Both are again very good, just in different ways. Interesting, both use features from their clothes washers, seriously.

Miele has always had one of the most intelligent wash systems with three full wash arms. One in the bottom, middle and on the top of the dishwasher.

Miele added the world’s only automatic dishwasher dispenser dubbed the auto dose similar to their twin dose dispenser in their laundry, releasing the right amount of detergent at the right time.

You can also buy their 20 load power disks or just stick with the normal dispenser.

Clients do report the cleanest dishes using the auto dose feature.

Profile doesn’t have the same wash cycle, because it has a smaller arm up top. However, they have four direct concentrated sprays on the top rack designed to scour the residue out of your taller sports bottles or baby bottles.

Like Miele, they have a third rack for silverware. Miele is a bit better because you can expand and retract it to accommodate taller glasses in the bottom.

But Profile has an additional silverware basket where 40 high pressure sprays to clean that stubborn leftover residue off your forks, knives and spoons.

And all the Profile handles and racks are coated with microband antimicrobial surfaces so germs not transmitted from a dishwasher which was the feature carried over from their popular laundry.

    Dry Cycles

Miele has always had excellent drying. Their clean air drying system allows outside air into the side wall of the dishwasher.

Hot steamier air mixes with the cooler air and is dissolved as water. The dishwasher also pops open at the end of the cycle to release steam and moisture at the end of the wash.

Profile also has a new drying system that does exactly opposite. Their dry boost system with a fan assist pulls air out of the dishwasher to dry even plastics.

    Reliability

Miele has the advantage of first year reliability 8.9% vs 12.2% for Profile in the first year.

Last year was Profile’s first year with this dishwasher. I expect next year to improve.

Also, GE’s service department is the best in the industry. When you have a problem as far as they actually have a robust service department.

That’s important if you’re buying from a store without service.

    Availability

Miele hasn’t accepted order for almost a full year. At the same time, you have to respect their transparency, saying publicly instead of taking your order and making you wait.

Profile has been one of the most available brands throughout the pandemic.

    Panel-Ready

There is one case when you have to buy a Miele even if you have to wait.

For some reason, American brands cannot make a dishwasher that looks good with a panel.

The dishwasher protrudes and looks like a dishwasher with a panel stuck on it versus a seamless cabinet look. In this one case, buy a European dishwasher like a Miele, Bosch, Beko or Asko vs an American like Profile or KitchenAid.

    Which is Better?

Right now, if you need a dishwasher, you’ll buy a Profile or wash by hand because Miele is just not available.

However, when Miele becomes available, is their feature set of automatic dispenser, washer and the clean air drying at $2,099 demonstratively better than the bottle and silverware washers.

Plus the dry boost drying in the Profile, which you can buy as low as $999.
