Electrolux Front Load Washer & Dryer Review

Electrolux front load washers and dryers can actually make washing clothes more enjoyable.

With best in class cleaning and drying performance, as well as one of the quickest wash cycles available, they won’t do your laundry for you, but the job will get done much faster.

In this article, we’ll give you an in-depth overview of the 4 different series of the Electrolux lineup.

And if you stick around until the end, we’ll give you our top expert recommendation on which series we think is best for most people as well the one reason I myself choose to skip Electrolux altogether (which I now regret).

If someone is in the market for a new washer and dryer, we always recommend Electrolux as a top option.

    Latest Updates

Although Electrolux is one of the largest appliance manufacturers in the world, they’re laundry products have really only become popular within the last 10 year is the US.

Their washer and dryer product lineup has gone through a few changes over the years but the pillars of Electrolux remain focused on the things that matter for most households, which include having the best cleaning performance, the fastest wash and dry cycles, beautiful design, and capacity large enough to fit wash a king size comforter in a footprint that doesn’t require you to knock down a wall to fit it like some of the other competitors on the market.

    Design

With a nice clean design and a sleek control panel, we think these units are the best looking on the market.

All models are available in white, and the more fully featured models are also available in a titanium gray finish.

Smart design isn’t just on the surface. Mold growth around the seal of front loaders has always been a concern, and Electrolux was one of the first brands to include an antimicrobial door seal that naturally blocks bacterial growth.

    Installation

Install flexibility is another key aspect of Electrolux that we tell our customers about. They are one of the only manufacturers to offer reversible doors on both their washer and dryer, allowing you to put it either on the left or the right side of your laundry space.

Depth-wise they are shallower than most allowing them to fit into tighter laundry closets, and their height is about 1 ½ to 2” shorter which makes the controls slightly more reachable if you are going to stack the units, also allowing the stacked pair to sneak under shorter door jambs.

And their dryers offer 4-way venting without having to buy a separate kit which gives you a lot of placement flexibility.

    Balance System

One thing we like to be upfront about with our customers is in regards to Electrolux’s perfect balance system, which automatically balances your load for quieter operation.

If you dig around online, you’ll see some people still complaining about noise and vibration with Electrolux.

We’ve experienced this first hand with some of our own customers. In rare cases it’s been a faulty unit that we have worked to replace, and in others a subpar installation that needs to be properly leveled.

With issues like this, buying from a reputable dealer will make all the difference.

On average Electrolux is going to usually be much quieter than most brands, but this is still a unit spinning at over 1000 RPM full of heavy, wet, laundry, so you’re gonna get some noise and/or vibration, that’ why we think calling it “perfect balance” sets the expectation too high… so keep that in mind.

    Model Overview

Before we talk about more of Electrolux’s many features, let’s go through the different models available.

Electrolux model numbers look confusing at first, but all you have to do is look at the middle three numbers to pick out which series the washer or dryer belongs in.

Electrolux washers and dryers are broken up into four different series: the 317, 427, 527 and 627 series.

The rest of the numbers simply indicate style options like fuel type (gas or electric) and color.

As you go up in series, you’ll pick up extra features. As I mentioned before, all models are available in white, however with the 527 and series 627 series you also have the option of a gray color that Electrolux calls titanium.

    Electrolux EFLW317TIW Overview

First up is the 317 series, which are Electrolux’s entry-level washers and dryers.

These entry level appliances give you the core of what Electrolux is known for without all the bells and whistles.

The washers feature the manufacturer’s signature LuxCare complete wash system. The LuxCare system measures and controls the wash temperature throughout the cycle, so that the water is never too hot or too cold.

It also has a smart load sensor to figure out how much water you need for each load.

These washers also include a 12 hour delay, as well as five cycles, and three options each for soil level and temperature.

The matching dryers include five cycles and three dryness levels.

You won’t find the quick wash and dry programs that Electrolux is known for, so if that is one of your must have features, you’ll need to step up from here.

    Electrolux EFLW427UIW Overview

The 427 series models are a step-up from the entry level options.

These washers include all the features of the entry-level models with the addition of the 20-minute fast wash cycle and special options for treating stains.

With a total of seven cycles and four soil level options, your clothes will come out super clean.

The dryers have seven cycles and four dryness levels.

The matching dryer also has an express 20 minute cycle and adds a steam option that’s not available in the entry-level versions.

    Electrolux EFLS527UTT Overview

The 527 series models bring a ton of new features to the table, including the Adaptive detergent Dispenser, which can evenly distribute laundry pods.

Laundry pods are extremely convenient. There’s no need to lift and pour a heavy bottle of detergent all while trying to avoid spilling it.

My wife is 5’ tall and our laundry is on pedestals so I know first hand how difficult it is for her to reach our detergent dispenser.

Laundry pods solve the issue. Just pull out a pod, throw it on top of your laundry, and you’re done. The problem with laundry pods is that sometimes they don’t fully dissolve, and when this happens it can leave a stain or residue on your clothes.

Electrolux is the first manufacturer to include a laundry pod dispenser. Just place the pod in the dispenser when you start the cycle, and the washer will make sure the pod is dissolved prior to releasing it into the wash drum.

Don’t worry though, you can still use your normal liquid, powder and bleach detergent, this is just an additional feature.

These washers also include steam and sanitization options, as well as a super-fast 18-minute cycle.
The deluxe washers also offer a total of nine cycles and five soil options. The dryers include eight cycles and five dryness levels.

Design wise you get an upgrade too, the door is now stainless steel instead of plastic.

For this reason be careful when mixing and matching different series of Electrolux washers and dryers as your laundry room may look a little off if the styles don’t match.

    Electrolux EFLS627UTT Overview

And finally, we have the top-of-the-line 627 models, which is the series we always recommend to our customers based on the amazing cleaning performance.

These washers include Electrolux’s signature SmartBoost and Stain Soak technologies, which work together to deliver the perfect blend of detergent and water.

SmartBoost Technology blends detergent and water in a special chamber before releasing the detergent into the tub. It can also do the same with fabric softener and bleach.

This provides a deeper, faster, and more effective clean and avoids those annoying spots on your clothes.

The Stain Soak option works in much the same way. Stain soak premixes water, detergent and stain remover before the cycle for an even deeper clean.

And if you’re looking for the fastest wash cycle Electrolux offers, you’ll love the 15-minute cycle for small loads.

The dryer offers a total of nine different cycles, including one for allergies.

Now that we’ve covered the 4 different series, our top recommendation for most people is the top of the line 627 series.

We try not to recommend the top of the line series of any product. While yes, as you go up in the lineup, the units are almost always objectively better or have more features, usually the middle of the line has the best performance to price ratio, and normally the features at the top of the line are gimmicky and not worth the price.

That’s not the case with the 627 series Electrolux units.

These units truly change the wash performance with the SmartBoost technology so we think the upgrade is worth the cost.

Electrolux’s SmartBoost has been rated as the absolute best at removing stains by many independent testing companies.

If I was buying these units for my own home, I would definitely consider the 627 series.

Cons of Electrolux Front Load Washer Dryer

So what are some reasons you might want to avoid Electrolux?

We always like to give you the full picture of products we sell, and with Electrolux there is 1 major drawback that turns off a lot of people.

Electrolux is completely missing WiFi connectivity. For a top of the line appliance that is just crazy.
For some people that might not matter, but for me personally, I ended up not getting Electrolux in my new home because of this.

Now that I have a washer and dryer with WiFi from a different brand, the only thing I use WiFi for is for notifications when the wash and dry cycles are complete.

This is nice and all but I really was expecting to utilize WiFi more frequently.

I regret my decision not to stick with my gut on the Electrolux.

There is a silver lining to this however, if you can wait, Electrolux should be releasing their WiFI capable units very soon.
