Is LG Studio Dishwasher Any Good?

The LG Studio LSDT9882, is an upscale $1,299 dishwasher with 10 cycles, 8 options and super quiet at 40 decibels.

Its best features, oddly enough, have nothing to do with the dishwasher itself, so this is going to be a very different product review.

In this article, you’ll learn LG’s best features and a few problems. We’ll also compare LG to other brands like Bosch, Miele, KitchenAid and the new Profile.

    So let’s get started.

    LG Studio Dishwasher

    Best Features

The Studio LSDT9882 is part of LG’s new revamped Studio line and has all the features with 3 levels of wash as well as decent adjustable racking with the third rack, like most competitive brands in this price range.

As I said, it’s quiet at 40 decibels. So you won’t hear it in an open kitchen.

You may have more cycles and options than other brands along with WiFi to operate it remotely from an app on your phone, but most of us only use 3-4 cycles, and WiFi for a dishwasher is just convenient, not a critical option.

Quad wash is really oblong shaped arms and will spread more water in more places than normal wash arms. Then again, most dishwashers wash dishes pretty well.

LG features steam generators to produce fine steam to loosen tougher baked on dishes. You don’t have to rewash that casserole dish or pot left overnight.

Steam ensures it will be loosened and then washed for better cleaning. Steam is also used to evaporate water spots and speed up drying.

    Competition

KitchenAid may have an interesting option at $1,449, with their larger racks and pro drying, allowing outside air into the dishwasher so the existing hotter air dissipates as water.

Profile is a decent option as well, with specialized sprays for bottles and silverware along with microband antimicrobial surfaces on the handle and racks.

LG uses hybrid condensation drying, which is the heat from the wash, plus jet dry, plus time, plus a fan to circulate the air along the dishwasher with steam to eliminate the water spots. This method works on dishes but probably not as well on plastics.

Other brands like Miele and KitchenAid use a fan to pull outside air into the dishwasher.

Miele and Bosch 500 series both open at the end of the cycle to release steam, while the better Bosch 800 Series employ a volcanic element, zeolite to draw moisture and emit heat for the best drying.

    Reliability

Last year, LG dishwashers were the single most reliable products sold at Yale, at an astounding 1.72% repair in the first year versus 12% for dishwashers in general, based on 40,000+ service calls logged by a service department last year.

Reliability is even more important than in the past because parts fix anything are in short supply.

Only since 2020 has availability been a key feature, but right now you can’t buy a Miele or Bosch at $949. That will continue to be a problem until 2024.

Neither has consistently nor predictably produced a dishwasher under $1,000 in almost 2 years.

LG has been the single best supplier throughout the pandemic and subsequent supply crises because they manufacture more of the parts, including motors, than most competitive brands.

    Conclusion

If you’re scrambling around looking for a better dishwasher, then consider this one. It has decent features as you would expect for a dishwasher price at $1,299

including cycles, options and WiFi. Steam feature is a worthwhile upgrade.

The dishwasher should be more reliable than any other on the market. Plus the best and most unique feature is you can buy the Studio and not wait six months to live.
