Miele Triflex HX1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Review

If you’re in the market for a cordless lightweight vacuum, but have held off because you didn’t want to sacrifice power, you’re in luck!

Here we’re talking about the Miele Triflex HX1 family of vacuums.

In this article, we’ll outline the main functions of each model and show you why Miele beats top cordless competitors from brands like Dyson, Moosoo, Shark and Bissel.

It wasn’t long ago that we were all stuck lugging around heavy corded vacuums. Then came cordless stick vacuums from brands like Dyson and Shark.

While these were much easier to carry around than a canister or an upright vacuum, they were really only good for small clean up jobs.

Not to mention they seemed to run out of battery power quickly and even released dust and other allergens into the air.

As the maker of the best vacuums in the world, Miele seemed like the best candidate to create a game changing cordless stick vac that could remedy some of these issues.

They spent years testing the endurance of these cordless vacuums, and finally, their Research & Development team came up with the TriFlex.

After a few weeks of testing out these units at home and around the office, we can definitively say – the Miele TriFlex has it all.

The convenience of a cordless stick vac, with the performance of a plug in canister or upright vacuum.

What more could you ask for?

So let’s jump right in as we break down the top six reasons Miele’s Triflex models are miles above the competition.

Miele Triflex HX1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

    Convenient

    They are convenient.

A common complaint of cordless stick vacs is they can’t stand up on their own. The Miele Triflex models do this with ease, so that you’ll never have to worry about it hitting the floor when you run to answer the phone or take a quick bathroom break.

The Miele is able to stand on its own, while the Moosoo, for example, needs to be leaned against the wall for it to stand up, making it much less convenient than the Triflex.

Another inconvenience of typical cordless vacuums is you have to hold a trigger to activate the suction. This is fine if you’re cleaning a small space, but can get seriously annoying when you’re trying to deep clean your house.

Fortunately, you’ll never have this issue with the Triflex. The Triflex offers 3 power settings and runs continuously when powered on.

    Performance

They perform well on all surfaces.

Gone are the days of having two separate vacuums, one for quick spot cleaning and another for whole home vacuuming.

Miele’s family of cordless vacuums are designed to handle it all. The Triflex models can even be used on medium to high-pile carpets – which is a rare feature in most cordless vacuums!

In fact, they’re just as powerful and efficient as traditional heavy duty canister vacuums.

Miele’s cordless models also have an extra large cleaning head to help you cover lots of ground quickly.

Miele Triflex Vs Shark ION F80

Let’s compare the Miele Triflex with the Shark ION F80.

T+he Miele effortlessly moves between surfaces, automatically adjusting to each type of flooring. I also have a lot of control when moving the vacuum between spaces.

When using the Shark on high-pile carpets, it seems to take on a life of its own. This is because the Shark is self propelling and pulls the vacuum through the carpet, making it harder to control.

You would think the fact that it’s self propelling would make it easier to use. But in practice, we found the Miele to give more control and provide a better overall vacuuming experience.

    Miele Triflex Vs Dyson

When we tested the Miele Triflex side-by-side with Dyson’s V8 Animal, the winner was a no-brainer.

When I am using the Miele Triflex to vacuum cereal, it picks up each piece instead of just spreading the crumbs around.

When did the same with the Dyson, it didn’t perform quite as well and left me with lots of coarse pieces.

    Quiet Operation

    They’re relatively quiet.

Your vacuum is probably the loudest appliance in your house. When you pull out your vacuum, conversations are usually cut short and the volume on the TV probably skyrockets.

But compared to other manufacturers, Miele’s vacuums are actually pretty quiet.

When operating on the lowest setting, the Triflex’s hum registers at about 70 dB, which is only slightly louder than the volume of a normal speaking conversation.

The Dyson V11, on eco mode, also reaches a level of 70dbs. But the high-pitched frequency of the Dyson makes it sound more like a dental drill than a quiet vacuum.

Not to mention, when the Dyson is running on eco mode, the power of the motor is limited.

With Miele, you’re getting a lower frequency sound with way more power.

    Air Filtration

They’re great for filtering allergens and dust.

One area that Miele really excels in is air filtration. Unlike lower quality cordless vacs, you’ll never smell dust in the air after cleaning your floors with a Miele cordless.

The HEPA filters in both the Pro and Cat and Dog models pick up 99.999 percent of small particles and allergens.

Even the entry-level Triflex eliminates 99.98 percent of these particles, which is why it’s a great option for households with allergy or asthma concerns.

You may be asking yourself… what’s a HEPA filter?

HEPA stands for “high efficiency particulate air filter.” These filters are able to trap at small particles like dust, pollen, pet dander, bacteria and mold – making them a must for those with allergy concerns.

    The best part?

The filters are easy to clean and never have to be replaced.

Speaking of easy to clean, let’s check out the dust bin on the Triflex compared to the dust bin on the Dyson.

With the Dyson, you have to make sure you empty the dust bin over a garbage can. Otherwise, the dirt you just cleaned up will be back on the floor in seconds.

With the Triflex, I can easily remove the bin and walk with it to the nearest garbage can for the most hygienic disposal possible.

    Lightweight

    They’re lightweight.

I can move the Triflex around with ease. That’s because these models only weigh a max of eight pounds. I say a max of eight pounds because the 3-in-1 design allows you to rearrange the pieces to change the weight distribution based on your preferences.

This is a huge difference compared to the traditional 13 to 18 pound weight of an upright vacuum.

The Miele feels like the perfect weight. Light enough to be maneuverable and portable, but heavy enough to be effective on carpets.

While the weight of a Dyson is all in your wrist, the Triflex can be configured to have the weight at the floor for a more ergonomic vacuuming experience, especially useful for carpet.

Each piece of the Miele vacuum is easy to pull apart and reconnect within seconds and can be adjusted based on the space you’re cleaning.

When I place the power unit at the top, you’ll get the traditional look of a cordless vacuum.

When I rearrange it to be at the bottom of the stick, some of the pressure on your arms is alleviated, allowing you to deep clean your home without putting unnecessary stress on your body.

You can even remove the power unit completely for spot cleaning places like your car without having to find an outlet. This allows you to easily clean dirt and dust from your trunk or in between seats.

    Build & Design

    They’re built to last.

When shopping for a cordless vacuum, it can be tempting to pick the cheapest option. After all, who doesn’t want to save a few bucks when they can?

However, it’s smart to invest in a more expensive model if it’s built to last.

Let’s take a look at the build quality on the Miele Triflex compared to the competition.

You can see just how sleek and sturdy the Miele looks by comparison. The Triflex has a beautiful, simplistic design reminiscent of something designed by Apple, whereas all of the other vacuums we tested have a toyish appearance, featuring weird futurist design accents that serve no practice purpose.

The Triflex features a durable brush head and a smooth polished body. When vacuuming with the Miele you’ll instantly notice it feels like a well built machine, leagues ahead of all the others.

Miele is known for testing its products more than any other manufacturer in the world.

They regularly release new products in global markets before making them available in the U.S. and perform extensive testing to make sure these models are as strong as they can possibly be.

    Models and Their Key Features

Now that we’ve gone over some of the reasons to choose a Miele, let’s talk about the key features in each of the three models so you can find the perfect model for your home.

Let’s start with the standard Triflex HX1 model, which retails at $499.

This is the entry level Triflex model available in Graphite Gray and Lotus White.

It features an extra large cleaning head and 60 minute replaceable battery to quickly clean large surfaces without worry.

It uses the advanced surface recognition technology we mentioned earlier, and even includes a two year warranty.

All Triflex models include a convenience wall mountable charging station.

Next, we have the Cat and Dog model, which you can purchase for $699.

The cat and dog model comes in Obsidian black, and includes all of the standard features, plus it’s tougher on pet hair and includes a mini motorized brush to clean furniture and upholstery.

This is perfect for getting stubborn dog or cat hair off your couch. One of the coolest features in this model is that the cleaning head is lined with LED lights to illuminate hard to see dust and pet hair on any surface.

The cat and dog model also includes a HEPA filter for allergies.

And finally, for $799, we have the Pro model.

The Pro model comes in a Grey Pearl finish. It has all of the same features as the cat and dog (with the exception of the mini motorized brush) and comes with an extra replaceable battery giving you over 120 minutes of total battery life.

With two batteries you’ll gain the flexibility to clean your entire home without interruption. The Pro model also comes with a dedicated battery charger as well.

Overall, the Miele Triflex HX1 gives you the classic Miele power you know and love in a more lightweight, convenient package.
